जग इतके प्रवाही होत चालले आहे आणि त्यातील समग्र बदलांनी इतका वेग घेतला आहे की त्यातून पत्रकारिता किंवा माध्यमे वेगळी राहूच शकत नाहीत. कारण माध्यमे ही समाजाचाच भाग आहेत. एवढेच नाही तर ते समाजाला पुढे घेऊन जाणारे इंजिन आहे, असे म्हटले जाते , त्यामुळे नव्या चांगल्या प्रवाहांचे पत्रकारांनी स्वागत केले पाहिजे. २०-२५ वर्षांपूर्वी पत्रकारिता केलेले काही पंडित हे पत्रकार समाजात कसा वेगळा आहे, माध्यमे कशी वेगळी आहेत, असे सांगण्याचा आटापिटा करत होती. मात्र त्यांनाही माहित असते की आपण रेटले तसे आग्रह आता रेटले जाणार नाहीत. मात्र आपण त्याकाळी कशी मर्दुमकी गाजवली, अशी रसभरीत वर्णन करण्याची आपल्याकडे सर्वच क्षेत्रात पद्धत पडली आहे. नव्या पिढीला आपण काहीतरी पाप करत आहोत, असे वाटावे, असे मार्गदर्शन करण्यात मागील पिढी पटाईत असते. माझे मत असे आहे की प्रत्येक पिढीला आपल्यावरील जबाबदारीची जाणीव असते आणि त्यानुसारच ती जगत असते. त्यामुळे आजच्या तरुण पत्रकारांच्या पिढीने परंपरेची फार ओझी घेवून जगण्याचे काही कारण नाही.

अनेकांना प्रथमदर्शनी हे पटणार नाही, मात्र आज ज्या प्रकारचे शिक्षण दिले जाते त्याचा आणि माध्यमांतील दैनंदिन कामाचा फारसा संबंध राहिलेला नाही. अर्थात हे काही केवळ पत्रकारितेलाच लागू नाही. एकूणच शिक्षण प्रक्रिया आणि जीवनातील आव्हाने – यांनी केव्हाच फारकत घेतली असून आता कौशल्ये जास्त महत्वाची ठरत आहेत. वर्तमानपत्र, दूरचित्रवाणी, रेडिओ, ऑनलाइन सोशल मिडिया आणि जनसंपर्क अशा सर्वच प्रकारच्या माध्यमात वेगवेगळी कौशल्ये लागतात. ही कौशल्ये फार जगावेगळी आहेत, असे एकेकाळी माध्यमांतील लोक म्हणत होते आणि त्यावेळी ते खरेही होते. मात्र गेल्या १५ वर्षांनी ते वेगळेपण हिरावून घेतले आहे, याचे भान आता पत्रकारांना ठेवावे लागणार आहे. आपण कोणीतरी फार वेगळे आहोत, असा जो पत्रकारांचा वावर असतो, तो पुढील काळात कमी करावा लागणार आहे.

ज्याला नाव देणेही अवघड झाले आहे, अशा या आजच्या काळाला सामोरे जाताना तरुण पत्रकारांना काय सांगावे, असा प्रश्न मला पडला तेव्हा पत्रकारांसाठी एक दशसुत्री तयार करावी, असा विचार मनात आला आणि ती मी तयार केली आहे. मला वाटते सूत्रबद्ध पद्धतीने ते सांगणे अधिक सोपे होईल. अशीच एक दशसुत्री मी १५ वर्षांपूर्वीही केली होती, मात्र आता असे लक्षात येते की ती आता जुनी झाली. तिची उपयोगिता कमी झाली. १५ वर्षांचा काळ हा फार मोठा म्हणता येणार नाही, मात्र गेल्या १५ वर्षांतील समग्र बदल पाहिले की जगाने आणि भारतीय समाजानेही मोठा प्रवास केला आहे. ही दशसुत्री त्या प्रवासाला धरून आहे. ती माझ्या अनुभवावर आणि आकलनावर आधारित आहे, त्यामुळे तिला मर्यादा असू शकतात, हे वाचकांनी लक्षात घ्यावे. शिवाय तिला मी २०१८ ची दशसुत्री म्हटले आहे, याचा अर्थ काही मुलभूत गोष्टी वगळता ती पुढील वर्षीही बदलू शकते.

• पत्रकार हा व्यापक विचार करणारा असला पाहिजे. त्यामुळे त्याने एखाद्या घटनेचे सर्व पैलू समजून घेवून मग आपले मत तयार करण्याची दक्षता घ्यावी. विशेषतः आपल्यावर प्रभाव असणाऱ्या व्यक्ती, त्यांच्या विचारसरणी आणि पुस्तकांच्या आहारी जावून आपण आपले मत तयार करत नाही ना, याची खात्री करून घ्यावी.
• आजच्या काळात विषयांचे वैविध्य इतके वाढले आहे की सर्वच विषयातील थोडे थोडे कळण्याचीही शक्यता राहिलेली नाही. त्यामुळे विविध विषयात गती असणाऱ्यांची नोंद आपल्याकडे असली पाहिजे. नवा विषय समोर आला की तो त्याच्याकडून शालेय विद्यार्थ्यासारखा समजून घेतला पाहिजे.
• भूमिका स्थानिक घ्यायची की व्यापक, असा पेच सध्या विभागीय असमतोल आणि जागतिकीकरणामुळे वाढला आहे. कारण स्थानिक घटनांवर राज्य, देश आणि जगाचा प्रभाव वाढला आहे. अनेकदा असे होते की आपण नोकरी करतो तेथे स्थानिक भूमिकाच घेणे भाग असते. पण ती घेताना आपल्या मजकुरात राज्य, देश आणि जगाच्या दृष्टीकोनाचा अजिबात समावेश केला नाही, असे होता कामा नये.
• कोणत्याही मांडणीचे माध्यम हे भाषा आहे. ती भाषा मराठी, हिंदी आणि इंग्रजी अशी आपल्याकडे असू शकते. आपण व्यक्त होतो आहोत ती भाषा आपण शुद्ध लिहितो ना, आपण जे वेगळे शब्द वापरतो आहोत, त्या शब्दांचे कंगोरे आपल्याला माहीत आहेत ना, याचा विचार केला पाहिजे. भाषा तपासण्यासाठी आतापर्यंत वार्ताहर, उपसंपादक, मुद्रितशोधक अशी रचना होती, मात्र आता ती तशी असणार नाही. त्यामुळे आपला मजकूर आपण देतो तसाच प्रसिद्ध झाला पाहिजे, अशी तयारी आता केली पाहिजे.
• घटना, प्रसंगाचे नेमके वर्णन करणे आणि वर्तमानाला भविष्य, भूतकाळाशी जोडणे, हे पत्रकाराचे कामच आहे. ते कौशल्य आपल्याकडे असलेच पाहिजे. मात्र सध्या हे सर्व ज्या यंत्रतंत्रातून आणि ज्या पद्धतीने पोचविणे आवश्यक आहे, त्या कौशल्यालाही तेवढेच महत्व आले आहे. त्यामुळे विचार मांडणीचे कौशल्य माझ्याकडे आहे, तर मी बाकीचे यंत्रतंत्र का शिकू, असे आता म्हणता येणार नाही. भविष्यात येवू घातलेली सर्वच कौशल्ये महत्वाची आहेत आणि त्याबाबतीत आज असलेले अवलंबित्व कमी कमी करत गेले पाहिजे.
• पत्रकारांना सर्वच बातम्या द्याव्या लागतात. त्यामुळे काही वेळा स्थानिक राजकीय नेते, नोकरदार व्यावसायिकांची नाराजी ओढवून घ्यावी लागते. वार्तांकन हा आपल्या कामाचा भाग असून त्यात आपण वैयक्तिक कोणाची बाजू घेत नाही ना, याची खबरदारी घेतली पाहिजे. आपण सर्वांचे मित्र आहोत आणि कोणाचेच शत्रू नाही, अशीच पत्रकाराची भूमिका असली पाहिजे. विशेषतः शेरेबाजी असलेले लेखन म्हणजेच चांगली पत्रकारिता अशी अनेकांची धारणा बनत चालल्याने आणि चांगले पत्रकार म्हणजे असे शेरेबाजी करणारे पत्रकार असा सार्वत्रिक समज झाल्याने आपणही त्या रांगेत जाऊन बसावे, असा मोह होऊ शकतो. पण त्यामुळे आपण अनेकांना विनाकारण दुखावत असतो, हे लक्षात ठेवावे आणि त्यामुळे मानहानी वाट्याला येवू शकते, याची तयारी ठेवावी. गावाचा, राज्याचा आणि देशाचा कारभार हाकणाऱ्या नेते, अधिकाऱ्यांना जनतेतील जाणकार मतांची गरज असते. केवळ पत्रकारांच्या सल्ल्याची नव्हे, याचे भान ठेवले पाहिजे.
• गावात, जिल्ह्यात, राज्यात आणि देशात होणाऱ्या उभारणीला म्हणजेच संपत्ती निर्माण होण्याला फार महत्व आहे. संस्थांची उभारणी ही खूप अवघड असते. व्यापार उदीम हे नेहमीच चढउतारातून चाललेले असतात. त्यामुळे सरकारी आणि खासगी संस्था, संघटनांना आपण काही किरकोळ कारणांनी बदनाम तर करत नाही ना, हे सतत तपासले पाहिजे. विशेषतः काही किरकोळ घटनांच्या बातम्या पानाच्या रचनेसाठी (दूरचित्रवाणीत वेळ भरून काढण्यासाठी) मोठ्या मथळ्याने प्रसिद्ध होतात. या प्रकारची सुरवात आपल्यापासून होणार नाही, याची काळजी आपण घेतली पाहिजे.
• नव्या काळात अर्थकारणाला अतिशय महत्व आले आहे. बहुतांश घटनांच्या मुळाशी अर्थकारणच असते. त्यामुळे कोणत्याही लेखनात त्याला महत्व देण्याची गरज आहे. कोणत्याही घटनेमागील अर्थकारणाचा शोध घेतल्यास ती घटना वाचक/ श्रोत्यांपर्यंत चांगली पोचविली जाऊ शकते. यात नेमकी आकडेवारी फार महत्वाची भूमिका पार पाडत असते. मात्र तिचाच सध्या अभाव असतो. अशी खात्रीशीर आकडेवारी देण्याची सवय लावून घेतली पाहिजे. अधिकृत वेबसाईटस् आणि इंटरनेटमुळे ती मिळविणे आता सोपे झाले आहे.
• व्यक्ती आणि पत्रकार ही भूमिका वेगळी असली पाहिजे, हे योग्यच आहे. मात्र ती तेवढ्या विशिष्ट वेळेपुरतीच असली पाहिजे. त्यामुळे त्यातील भेद कमी करून त्यामुळे वाढणारा आयुष्यातील तणाव कमी केला पाहिजे. पत्रकारांच्या आयुष्यात धावपळ असते, तणाव निर्माण होतात आणि त्यांची प्रकृती बिघडते, असे म्हटले जाते. मात्र असे हे सर्व पत्रकार म्हणून आपण ओढवून तर घेत नाही ना, असा विचार वेळोवेळी केला पाहिजे.
• आर्थिक नियोजनाला सध्या अतिशय महत्व आले आहे. पत्रकारितेतून आपल्या आर्थिक गरजा भागत नसतील तर आपण आणखी काही किंवा नव्याने काही केले पाहिजे. पत्रकार आहोत म्हणून आपण नव्याने काही करू शकत नाही, हा विचार बाजूला सारून आयुष्याच्या कोणत्याही टप्प्यावर नवे काही करण्याची जिद्द बाळगली पाहिजे. विशेषतः पत्रकारितेतून चिटकलेली खोटी प्रतिष्ठा वेळप्रसंगी बाजूला सारली पाहिजे.
